What is TMS Treatment?

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), also known as repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (rTMS) treatment, is an innovative approach to treating depression, OCD, addiction and other mental health conditions.

TMS is widely understood to be “magnetic therapy for depression”, yet it can be used to treat much more than just depression. TMS is a non-invasive treatment that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain, which also means it can relieve the symptoms of depression, OCD, addiction and other mental health conditions.
TMS is a brain stimulation therapy, meaning it only treats the brain circuits involved in your condition, rather than flooding the brain with chemicals. And unlike medication, there are very few potential side effects.

TMS Treatment for Depression

Unlike other methods used to manage the symptoms of depression, TMS treatment for depression helps to get neurons firing and rewiring together for more long-term (and natural) improvement of symptoms.

TMS depression treatment is quick and easy, with each session lasting no more than thirty minutes. Treatment typically involves a commitment of around five sessions per week, totalling between fifteen to thirty sessions, depending on individual response. At Smart TMS, we aim to make this therapy more accessible by offering flexible scheduling across various locations – without the need for hospitalisation.

TMS treatment for adolescents

We are able to treat mental health in young adults, meaning we can now use TMS treatment for depression and other conditions with patients aged 14 and over.

Smart TMS is the first UK provider to offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) for under 18s. Many young people struggle with mental health conditions and depression. TMS therapy offers a new approach, which is non-invasive and medication-free.

Our expanding network of clinics across the UK means that we are now in all major cities.
